The Radio Caroline 531kHz weekend live from the ship
John Cronnolley reporting: Radio Caroline was broadcasting from the Ross Revenge over the 28-31st August weekend as it was a Bank Holiday in the UK. It was also using 531kHz as a test broadcast to South Essex and North Kent to see what the coverage of the area was and listeners reaction to it. The studio that has been used for previous weekend broadcasts was used again. Also further painting was done on the ship during the weekend.
The programmes which started at 6pm on Friday 28th August and finished at 12 midnight on Monday 31st August had tracks which had been picked by the listeners and put together for "Now That's What I Call . . . Radio Caroline".
Taking part in the broadcasts were Cliff Osbourne, Bob Lawrence, Johnny Lewis, Jeremy Chartham, Dave Foster, Dave Richards, Brian Martin, Mike Stevens, Martin Fisher and supplemented by Ross Revenge Restoration Crew members, Lee Shuttlewood, Graham Coull and Phil Meek.
In all it was a successful weekend's broadcasting, with listenership figures up due to the AM test broadcast, the presenters and the music that was played.
Hopefully, once the listeners information received has been evaluated, then a decision will be taken whether to continue with the test broadcasts.
